CHAS – The Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme


Many contractors and consultants apply for work with both public (local authority/council etc) and private sector organisations and in order to be able to tender/win this work they are required to meet the buyer’s health and safety standards.

CHAS is a scheme accepted by many public and private sector organisations and therefore being CHAS approved can help you avoid much duplication when demonstrating this compliance to various buyers.

CHAS assesses applicants:

  • Health and safety policy statement
  • Their organisation for health and safety
  • Their specific health and safety arrangements to a standard acceptable to buyers

CHAS and other similar accreditation schemes require evidence and information from you to demonstrate that your organisation is aware of, and complies with your legal obligations with regard to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and other applicable heath, safety and environmental legislation.
